I have been spending a lot to time decorating my house the last month. I think it has started to become an obsession, but since it improves my living space, I’m not going to seek treatment.
It started with my bedroom. I got a few curtains and a film that creates rainbows all over the walls when the sun shines through. I LOVE IT! It is so lovely and cozy! I also learned that the curtains, while gauzy, also keep out the cold! I can enjoy the sunlight during the winter without worrying about the change the temperature would cause my heating bill. I got another set and did the other side. It’s transformative!

Then I changed my altar up a bit. Put a new background tapestry behind it and rearranged some of the things. It makes for a nice focus of my intentions as I do my work. It’s a bit darker than I usually go for, but it is still quite lovely to look at. It makes that area feel more unified.

After, I decided to make some brooms for the seasons to hang on the wall up the stairs. These came out far better than I had expected, and I love walking in and seeing them every day. They have crystals and other wonderful trinkets in them. My hope was that every time you look at them, you see something new.

Once I had the brooms up, I had a large frame that was not being used and a set of elk antlers from my father’s hunting as a youth. I had no idea what to do with either, till I decided to put them together! Elmer sits across from the brooms in the entryway. I took a mandala I had crocheted and put it as the base, then put floral parts along the frame and into the mandala. I LOVE it! He’s a bit askew at the moment from too many tall people experiencing Elmer up close, but he will have a new home when I get to work on the next project I want to undertake.

From there, I went into the living room. I already had my plant corner, which I am sorely neglecting. But I had been piecing together decorations over there over time, and the plants decided to do their own decorating by climbing up the palmistry picture. I wanted to create a cozy, witchy, fairy grandmother feel, so I got some pretty ombre blue to purple curtains with star cutouts and lovely Victorian vintage window flounces. I added a couple of shadow boxes with doors and put all my small bottles of crystals in them! I need to fix up the shelf below the tv, but for now, it is the vibe I was looking for!

Then I went into the kitchen. This has been my main focus recently. I have had an idea for the kitchen for a while now, putting a long shelf along the top of the wall and having dried herbs and flowers hanging from it. I decided a bunch of smaller shelves and propagator vases filled with herbs and crystals. I added to it two expanding diamond coffee racks to hang mugs, dried herbs and flowers, and any other item that can be hung. They are now waiting for next year to be filled with those dried elements. My shelf decorations are themed. The first one is my “Me Shelf”. It represents me. The next shelf is my “Nature” shelf. It reminds me of the critters that live on the property that I share with them. The next shelf is my “Anime/Gaming” shelf, and all the objects represent anime and games my kids and I have fond memories of. (Animal Crossing, Studio Ghibli, Legend of Zelda, Yu-Ghi-Oh) The last shelf is fun creatures turned into objects that I have found through the years. I got some garland and strung it through the shelves, which I love. I painted the walls a color called “Relish”. At first, I thought it might be too vibrant, but when it dried, it actually made the kitchen seem brighter and more welcoming. I got some great decorative outlet and light switch plates that remind me of “Grandma’s Bathroom Wallpaper”, but they fit in so incredibly well. (Shout out to Wallplates.com!) I got a couple scarves and an over the sink organizer and decorated the window with the scarves. It’s very boho chic. The only things left to do in the kitchen are the countertop and getting slow close fittings for the cabinets and drawers! It has really become one of my favorite rooms now!

The next room for decorating will be my bathroom. I have hated that room since day one and have been wanting a change for a long time. I am planning on making it like a mossy glade, painting it in a light shade of green, pink, gold, and white. I want to get an antiqueish vanity to turn into a skin, get new flooring down, and new lighting. I have started creating the decor for it and am excited to get those going. I would like to eventually expand the bathroom so that I can put in a soaking tub as the one there now is way too small and uncomfortable. I want to make the walk-in closet a hall to the bathroom, with the expanded space for the bathroom. At the same time, I’m wanting to get rid of the bedroom door and put in a hidden door where the closet is in the entryway and my bedroom, as that closet space isn’t really needed. I want to make it a lovely sitting room where my faux fireplace and Elmer will reside with a comfy chair and small side table. A couple of Victorian style wall sconces with light, and it will be perfection. These things are in the future. I am just now starting to look and assemble the things I want for everything. I just got the appliances to make the hidden door, so now I’m in search of a bookshelf or another type of furniture that I can put on wheels and turn into the door.
I’m super excited about all these changes. I have lived in my house for almost 10 years and have only just started making it mine. I can’t wait till every room is a reflection of myself and the magic I want to see in the world!
