I am going to let you in on some secrets.
Over the last year, I have been listening to podcasts that have shown the light about grifters in the “self-help” and coaching areas of life. It is pretty shameful to hear how people are being tricked out of their money for information that is actually pretty easy to get on your own.
I am going to do a two part series of posts discussing the actual ways that you don’t have to pay me, a certified life coach, or any other person to find out how life coaching and Law of Attraction works.
Now, i know I’ve touched on LoA before. I am actually a strong beleiver of it and have been since I was at least 10 yrs old. But I also understand that there are people who are out there creating situations that get vulnerable people to spend thousands of dollars to learn.
I’m going to give you all the info for free because I hate that it has become a huge grift to string people along. That wasn’t my interest when I got started in lifecoaching. I wanted to be an accountabilibuddy to those who need someone to help them reach their goals. In that idea and spirit, I’m going to explain to you what happens in both of these spheres.
This post is going to be about Life Coaching.
First off, Life Coaching isn’t therapy. You don’t go to someone to help them resolve their life’s problems. There can be life problems that get in the way, but the life coach is not supposed to go into any therapeutic type ranges to resolve the problems. That is what clinical therapists and psychologists for. Any life coaach practicing therapy is a huge red flag , nd you should stop paying them anything for their services.
So what is a life coach?
A life coach is someone who helps you reach your goals. They help you create a plan to reach those goals. They check in with you to see if you are working towards those goals, to say what you have done to work towards them, and if that didn’t seem to work, help create a new plan.
A life coach will start the session asking what you feel you need a life coach for. What are you trying to reach. Where do you want to be in 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years. What have you done already to try and reach those goals. Why do you think it isn’t working.
A life coach then sets up weekly or every two week appointments to check in, see where you have gotten, any frustrations, change in plans, what can be changed to make the work more enticing and exciting.
A life coach is literally there to help you get to where you want to be by being a neutral party who asks questions to help you work through the path of where you want to be. The time spent with a life coach shouldn’t be longer than 3 months to help you get into habits you create to work towards your goals.
That’s it.
A life coach is not a guru. They are not a leader. They are not someone who required devotion. All they expect from you is that you be present, you attend each session , nd you work towards your goals or find ways to get there.
That is literally it.
Any life coach telling you that they have the answers to all your problems is full of shit. They don’t. They want you to continue sending money on sessions. They are probably setting you up to fail so that you keep up with sessions. If you are spending more than 3 months with a life coach, you have gained a dependency that the life coach is taking full advantage of.
Now, there are other types of life coaches. Coaches for mediation, LoA, business, emotional intelligence, self-confidence, happiness, romance, and love. Pretty much anything that you can think that you need to explore in your life, there is a coach for. I am a meditation, hypnotherapy, LoA , and life coach. I have certification in all four. I have taken all the courses and spent the money to get certified. I have zero clients because of the fact that here are people taking advantage of people who are searching and hoping for life change. I am not one of those people to take advantage of others, which is why I’m making these posts.
When you read a book that is written by a life coach, pay attention to the words they use. IF they are basically saying the same thing in every chapter (“You just have to do to it”, “You are the only thing in your way”, “What are you waiting for” etc.) and they say things like “borrow whatever money you can to take the courses and seminars”, “attend all the intensives”, basically go broke to become the realized you, stop reading the book. They are sending you down the pathway to poverty.
Coaching consists of questions that require you to come up with plans and solutions. I have looked and literally all the information you can get online, in books, etc. don’t give you any of those questions. They just sell you the promise that if you spend the money on these courses, your life will elevate to levels you can’t imagine! You just have to buy the service/class/whatever it is they are selling.
I have spent time listening to a lot of life coach podcasts. None of them actually tell you anything. They don’t tell you how to do it because that is the product they are selling. They just keep teasing you along for 30 minutes, telling their stories of how their lives or their clients’ lives took major upswings once they started being coached. Just stop there. Don’t bother because those podcasts, TikToks, YouTubes have nothing of value. They are just hoping that eventually, you will break down and send them money.
Below are the questions a life coach should be asking you. I am giving them to you for free because honestly, they are questions you should always be asking yourself about anything you want in life anyways. They aren’t some mysterious secret code to unlock all your potential. They are questions to make you think honestly about what you want and what are you willing to do to get it.
Goals & Vision:
What specific results do you want from coaching?
Describe your ideal future life/vision.
How will you know you’ve achieved your goals?
Challenges & Obstacles:
What’s currently hindering you?
What beliefs or fears might be holding you back?
How do you typically handle stress or setbacks?
Values & Motivation:
What matters most to you in life?
What gives you energy and brings you joy?
What are your core strengths and weaknesses?
Self-Assessment & Action:
On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied are you with [area of life]?
What actions have you already taken?
What small step can you take in the next two weeks?
Coaching Relationship:
How can I best support you?
What feedback do you need from me?
(Taken from Google AI)
That is all there is to it.
